Cures Act Final Rule Certification Program
Dentrix Enterprise is certified for the Cures Act.
Dentrix Enterprise has completed development of the necessary updates to comply with the 2023 Cures Act requirements ensuring we are certified technology as defined by the ONC Health IT Certification program.
These latest changes expand the information available for patients and practices seeking to securely share information under the act.
The changes will be released as part of our next Dentrix Enterprise release (11.0.48) scheduled for March 2024.
As with the Meaningful Use Program, the Cures Act Final Rule implements interoperability requirements for providers of electronic health records (EHRs). And, as with Meaningful Use, the latest development work certifies Dentrix Enterprise for the Updates to the 2015 Edition Certification Criteria — requirements of this new program under the ONC Health IT Certification Program. The Cures Act Final Rule program is intended to put patients in charge of their health records, empowering them with greater control of their health care.
The rich heritage of Dentrix Enterprise technology is well-suited to support users for this program and in many other ways:
- Dentrix Enterprise features an open database using Microsoft® SQL Server™.
- Dentrix Enterprise data has been open and accessible to user for years — unlike some software providers that block access to their data.
- Dentrix Enterprise has a rich history of assisting users with clinical quality measures (CQM) reporting for Meaningful Use (measures/reporting).
- Dentrix Enterprise offers extensive reporting capabilities that have enabled users to successfully complete application and reporting requirements for grant programs.
- Integration of dental and medical technologies with EHRs through HL7®, FHIR® and CCDA patient exporting (version 2.1)
- Capabilities for HIE access and integration
These required changes will be released as part of our next Dentrix Enterprise release scheduled for March 2024.
However, if your organization requires the use of certified software that creates a CCD-A file using a FHIR API prior to March, please contact Enterprise support at 800.459.8067.
Support will work to provide your organization with a custom update prior to our formal March 2024 release.

As stated on the Cures Act Final Rule website, patients need more power in their health care, and access to information is key to making that happen. The 21st Century Cures Act is intended to help consumers take control and make better decisions about their medical and dental care. This is reflected in three areas:
- Ease of access to their records
- Protecting patient privacy and security
- Promoting the ability to shop for care and manage costs

- Makes patient data requests easy and inexpensive
- Gives wide choice of apps/software from a competitive, vibrant app marketplace
- Prohibits information blocking except for reasonable and necessary activities
- Improves patient safety
